A New Speedycop Era Has Begun…

Hey Gang! Lots of MAJOR developments to catch you up on over the last few years. Since late 2019, I’ve been focused on both recovery from a serious line-of-duty injury, and on the construction of our AMAZING new place in the Smoky Mountains, right by the infamous Tail Of The Dragon in east Tennessee. While we were living in a camper and working endlessly to get our new little mountain acreage passable and habitable, I stuck to social media updates, so this website and my YT channel languished. As this new chapter dawns, I’ll be updating this site and posting new vids regularly to speedycopvideos on YT. If you haven’t already, please click the link and subscribe to see new, unique, and exciting automotive (and random adventure) content!

Why Tennessee? Because we’ve always loved it, and often talked about moving here when I retire from policing. People are nicer here, the scenery is spectacular, and the Tail – with its 318 turns in just 11 miles – is a mecca for cool cars and bikes from all over North America. As a huge sports car and motorcycle enthusiast myself, it’s a total dream come true to finally relocate here! I hit the magic half-century mark on my last birthday, so I’m finally eligible for retirement. Now that my brand new cervical disc is alleviating much of the debilitating pain I was experiencing, I’ll be getting back into building wild, face-melting vehicles and racing them in various forms of motorsport. It will be going from a mere hobby/obsession, to a full-time job/obsession. My overactive imagination has no shortage of bad ideas, and many new projects are already in the works.

The new place is situated on 20+ private acres, with EPIC long-distance mountain (and seasonal water) views, and no pesky HOA to cramp our style. We now have a 2,100 foot gravel driveway that climbs roughly 260 feet in elevation, a 250 yard shooting range, an 810 foot zipline that takes you an exhilarating 80 feet or so above our valley, a beautiful new 1,400 square foot home, and the new 60×100 steel #speedycopshop, with a 20×100 covered rear porch to store even more project vehicles. A pair of two-post lifts are already operational, with a four post yet to come. We even added a self-contained bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower. We’re also building a 10’x16′ two-story wooden post and beam style structure inside on one corner, using lumber milled right here on the property from the trees we cleared on the house and shop sites. My office will occupy the first floor, and feature the unique desk I’m making from an old ‘Rolls Royce’ Custom Cloud front end. The second floor will be a guest builder loft that overlooks the shop interior. Our beautiful fifth wheel camper will be relocated on the property and become an AirBnb, doubling as overflow lodging for friends, family, and additional guest builders.

We’re situated on the edge of Maryville, about an hour from Dollywood/Pigeon Forge, 90 minutes from Chattanooga, and 3 1/2 hours from Nashville or Atlanta. It’s only 30-35 minutes to the Knoxville airport. In addition to the wacky automotive builds, I have a lot of fun and unusual ideas to execute here as far as the shop and property, so expect much more than just some challenging ATV trails outside and a conventional layout in the shop. Funds are certainly tight, but we’ll keep plugging away until the final vision is realized! Stay tuned…

We brought the #SpiritofLemons #airplane #racecar to the 15th Annual San Diego Comic-Con July 18-21 for the Travel Channel and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! It was an AMAZING experience. We *need* to be back home Sunday night the 28th in time for Ripley’s Believe It or Not show on the Travel Channel. Set your DVRs, because they are airing a 6 1/2 minute segment on us that they filmed last year. It’s gonna be good!!!

AMC Pacer #Fishbowl

20190608_084914

AMC Pacers have been called “fishbowls” since their debut in the mid 70’s, due to the shape of the rear and the large glass areas. In my mind, it was high time two were turned into a real fishbowl (complete with real Betta fish). My incredible team, Speedycop & The #GangofOutlaws, has built nearly three dozen cars in the last ten years for The 24 Hours of Lemons. They stepped up yet again, going far above and beyond, to execute my newest harebrained idea IN JUST 19 DAYS!!!

Building on this car was Jaime Bloch, Don Trevett, Joshua Stephen, Nicholas Keifer, John Cox, John Ward, Dustin Kosar, Matt Rhinehart, Brett Werts, Ken Ashby, Sami Ashby, Karl Applegate, Matthew Luehman, Chris Albright, and yours truly.

The incredible clear aquatic-themed wrap was designed in one day and applied the very next by the extremely talented and friendly folks at Arba Graphics in Hughesville, MD. Graphic artist Ramon designed it, owner Tim and tech Steve applied it, and Elaine helped with it all.

We took two completely rotten Ohio Pacers that John Cox and I just picked up (‘a 78 and a ’79), skinned them, and mounted the back halves on out team’s old 1991 Toyota MR2. It had been sitting in my woods for years, and was also in rough shape. It needed a clutch, brakes, tires, the seized calipers freed up, and the serious varmint infestation removed. I even found a 5 foot snakeskin in the passenger floorboard!

Less than 3 weeks later, we raced the #Fishbowl at New Jersey Motorsports Park in The 24 Hours of Lemons, where it turned very fast laps and won the Organizers Choice!
